Henry Cavill Out as Superman

James Gunn has announced on Twitter that Henry Cavill will no longer be playing the role of Superman in the DC universe. The co-head of the new DC Studios said that he is writing a new Superman film, which will focus on a younger Clark Kent.
No director has been attached to the film yet.
Henry Cavill reacted to the news on his Instagram account, posting a statement that expressed his sadness as he steps down from the role, but he says that he accepts “the changing of the guard is something that happens”.
This comes two months after Cavill revealed that he would be returning to play as the character. He appeared in the post credits scene of Black Adam, and this was thought to be a tease for the future.
Many fans speculated that he had quit The Witcher to come back as Superman, but this hasn’t been confirmed by either Cavill or Netflix.
Cavill addressed this in his post, and said that he was directed by Warner Bros. Discovery to reveal his return as Superman. He accepted this came before the hire of Gunn and Peter Safran, the two heads of DC Studios.
Gunn answered some questions on the thread, including one fan asking if Ben Affleck could direct the film. The answer may have surprised some people, Gunn said that the pair have met, and are keen to find Affleck the right project.
There was also confirmation that Gunn’s and Safran’s future plan for DC has been finalised, and will be unveiled in the new year.
This comes off the back of a turbulent time for DC, with news breaking that the current iteration of Wonder Woman 3 was dead, and reports saying that Patty Jenkins walked from the project.
Jenkins released a statement to clear up what happened. She explained that she never walked from the project, and she understood that there was nothing that could be done to move the project forward at this time.
She also addressed the status of Rogue Squadron and explained that it’s still in active development at Lucasfilm. This is good news to anyone who is worried about the project after it was indefinitely delayed a few months ago.
DC’s next film is Shazam! Fury of the Gods and will release in cinemas on March 17.
