The Witcher star Henry Cavill has confirmed that the upcoming season 3 of the show will be his last as Geralt of Rivia.

Netflix has confirmed the show will have a fourth season, with actor Liam Hemsworth taking over Cavill’s role.

Both actors released statements commenting on the news.

Henry Cavill stated that:

“My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for season 4.

“In my stead, the fantastic Mr. Liam Hemsworth will be taking up the mantle of the White Wolf. As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men. Liam, good sir, this character has such a wonderful depth to him, enjoy diving in and seeing what you can find.”

Liam Hemsworth responded to return the compliment.

“As a Witcher fan I’m over the moon about the opportunity to play Geralt of Rivia. Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure.

“Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

This announcement comes off the heels of the news that Henry Cavill will return to the role of Superman.

The post credits scene of Black Adam revealed Henry Cavill’s Superman confronting Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s Black Adam. Johnson himself has said he’s determined to make a film where Black Adam fights Superman.

There is no release window for this film, or Cavill’s next Superman project.

Fans have been reacting with disappointment to the news that Cavill will be leaving the role of Geralt for season four.

Cavill will be starring in the upcoming third season of The Witcher, which will release in summer of 2023.

Netflix’s next project to take place in the universe of The Witcher is titled The Witcher: Blood Origin on 25 December 2022.
