The Marvels official trailer reaction
“The Marvels” had its official trailer released a few days ago. Despite not being a San Diego Comic-Con Marvel still wanted to be part of the conversation. It gives a clear look at the film’s villain and why Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau are working together to save the galaxy.
The trailer opens with Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury talking to Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, no doubt catching her up on the events of “Secret Invasion”. The fact that the two projects are so closely related and are released so close to each other seems to hint at the idea that “Secret Invasion” will somehow lead into one another, which is an exciting prospect. It’s a brilliant idea and something that takes full advantage of the interconnected nature of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel is also noticeably alone (apart from Goose the Flerkin), and she looks lonely. She thinks she can do it all by herself, which has separated her from everyone. So far because the MCU hasn’t challenged her. She has done everything by herself so far, which is why people dislike the character. So making her learn the value of teamwork by the end of the film is a valuable lesson, and should win some fans that dislike the character.
Next audiences get a monologue from Zawe Ashton’s villain Dar-Benn as she uses bangles to entangle the light-based powers of Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani’s Ms. Marvel, and Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau. It’s an intriguing concept and one that is rich with potential.
Rambeau gives a rundown of how the Marvels are all different from one another which is a welcome explanation. How powers work in the MCU is rarely discussed so to see even the briefest hint is informative.
A bunch of action shots flies by, and the trailer then reveals Dar-Benn’s motivation – to destroy the planets that the heroes call home, which means she’s just to target Earth. But this alien threat will give Marvel the chance to explain what’s left of S.W.O.R.D. after “WandaVision” and what S.A.B.E.R. do in the MCU because it’s not currently clear.
Even more action shots go by which, suggesting more action-focused than previous Marvel movies, and then there is the cutest shot in the MCU. A group of Flerkin kittens floating in zero gravity, which is just adorable. To close out the trailer, there’s the tag of the film, but with each Marvel saying it, likely all in the same room but here the trailer splices it.
“The Marvels” will release in cinemas on November 10.
