Annie Wersching Dies at 45

Annie Wersching, the actress who played the Borg Queen in Star Trek: Picard season two, has unexpectedly died of cancer aged 45.

She also appeared in television shows like 24, Bosch, and Timeless. Wersching also appeared in Marvel’s Runaways. Deadline first broke the news.

Wersching was diagnosed with cancer in 2020, but continued to perform in other roles such as The Rookie, and provided the voice for the character of Tess in The Last of Us video game, which was adapted into a TV series for HBO Max.

Her husband, Stephen Full, issued a statement, saying:

“There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today. But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.

“As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street, she would yell BYE! until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye my Buddie. ‘I love you little family…’” 

The Borg Queen is the leader of the Borg Collective, providing a common goal and direction much like an insect queen.

Wersching took over the role from Alice Krige, who was recast to give a different take and to alert viewers that this was another version of the character

Fellow Picard costar Jeri Ryan posted on Instagram: “What a beautiful, bright light was lost today.

I’m so lucky to have had the chance to work and play with the incredible @anniewersching. My heart breaks for her beautiful family and everyone who was lucky enough to know her… RIP, beautiful Annie.”
