Amazon reportedly looking into new Stargate show

Amazon is reportedly looking to solicit pitches for a Stargate reboot, according to Gateworld.
Insiders are saying thatThe Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have expressed interest. This would make sense, as they already have a pre-existing relationship with Amazon, having produced the final three seasons of The Expanse exclusively for Amazon Prime.
Other contenders include the producers of the hit Amazon show The Boys and J.J. Abrams’ production company Bad Robot.
Amazon’s interest in the property isn’t a surprise, as the company looks to take advantage of content that MGM owns. Amazon’s merger with MGM was completed in March 2022. Neither studio has commented on the future of the Stargate franchise.
This comes off the heels of the Stargate co-creator Brad Wright telling fans of the show on Twitter that his reboot is dead.
Wright confirmed he was hired to write a pilot for the series, but “that was just before COVID hit. Timing couldn’t have been much worse.” Wright further explains that in the time since he was asked to write this pilot, “all the players have changed in the interim so it’s likely to gather dust.” In a sentiment we can all agree with, Wright wraps up the tweet by saying, “Would’ve been fun, though.”
On a livestream celebrating the 25th anniversary of Stargate, Wright said that this reboot would “probably never see the light of day.”
If this report is true, fans won’t have to mourn the loss of this reboot for much longer. Even if this isn’t true, Amazon is bound to reboot the franchise soon enough.
In September, all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1, five seasons of Stargate Atlantis, and two seasons Stargate Universe appeared on Amazon Prime, following their merger with MGM.
Stargate SG-1 is a science fiction series following the US Air Force exploring strange worlds after discovering a “gate” that would create a wormhole between Earth and other planets.
The show is based on Emmerich and Devlin’s Stargate movie from 1994.
