Warhammer 40k-Shootas, Blood & Teef Is A Little Nugget Of Joy In The Grimdark Future
Warhammer 40K: Shootas, Blood & Teef is a straightforward 2D platform shooter. Players control an orc fighting through waves of enemies for revenge. The game is full of comedy, however. Which falls in line with how this faction is often portrayed. The game is also fairly short so the humor doesn’t get dragged out.
The side scrolling gameplay has a nostalgic feel, while including a variety of weapons. Though the effectiveness of each is debatable it’s still possible to find a fun weapon. Each weapon type has a couple of variants. Players can buy these weapons by finding teeth, hence the “teef” part of the game’s title. There’s also a melee attack that can lead to frustration in co-op. Unless your player two is okay with being (unintentionally) griefed. In co-op mode, the melee attack causes damage to both players.

Players get a few different orcs to choose from. The WAAAGH mode is one of a few core skills. This mode allows players to shoot and move faster while taking damage. Going absolutely berserk is incredibly fun. Thankfully the meter fills up fast enough that the wait isn’t long between each use. There isn’t a huge amount of variety in enemy types and areas.
Shootas, Blood & Teef is the polar opposite from the grim tone of most 40K games. It’s cartoonish with puppet-like animations. Even killing an enemy is handled in a joking manner instead of with gore. It’s a great choice for anyone who finds the seriousness of this franchise off-putting. Though a minimal understanding of the Warhammer universe is necessary for most of the jokes to land.
