The Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Watch This Week
The Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Watch This Week
So, another week, another list bringing you the best sci-fi and fantasy to watch as we come to the end of March. It’s actually pretty quiet for new releases right now, but the nature of the internet and streaming means there’s always something to watch, so let’s check out what’s on offer.
Severance
All episodes streaming on Apple TV+
Apple is one streaming platform that often gets overlooked. They don’t have the back catalog of the big studio platforms, or the market share of Prime Video, but what they do have is some great TV, and if you’re looking for something to binge watch, then all episodes of ‘Severance’ are now available, after the show just wrapped its second season.
The show follows a group of office workers who have had their conscience “severed” to create two personalities, one that exists only at work, one that exists only in their personal life. This is a cool enough concept on its own, but add to it the fact the company they work for is shady, to say the least, and things get very interesting.
Mickey 17
On digital and VOD from March 25
This was a recommendation when it hit theatres, and now, less than a month later, you can bring it home on digital. The movie stars Robert Pattinson as a “disposable” on a space colony. He’s given all the most dangerous jobs, and when he dies, a new version is “printed” with all his memories intact.
The film underperformed at the box office, leading Warner Bros. to put it on digital early. This seems like a bad idea for the industry in the long run, but it’s a win for fans who want to experience this at home, if you’re a fan of Pattinson or director Bong Joon-ho.
The Last of Us Season 1
All episodes streaming on HBO Max
Based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, it follows survivors of a zombie outbreak caused by a parasitic fungus as they try to survive in a post-apocalyptic world. This show premiered back in 2023 and was an instant hit, now there’s a second season coming in April, with Pedro Pascal reprising his leading role. If you want to get into this show before then, or just go on a refresher course, all episodes are available now.
Wicked
Now streaming on Peacock
Musicals seem to be on a high right now, and if you want to catch one of the biggest of 2024, now you can, as ‘Wicked’ is streaming on Peacock.
An adaptation of the broadway musical of the same name, it’s based off of the ‘Wizard of Oz’ movie from 1939, and tells the backstory of Elphaba and Glinda, the two witches from that story. If you’re looking for some thearics, costumes, and impressive visuals, or just want a singalong, then check it out now.
That’s another rundown done. It was a shorter one this week, with no new releases on it, as there’s been a bit of a lull as we reach the end of March, but don’t worry, there are plenty of new movies and shows arriving in April, so check back for a new list next week!
