Star Wars: Ahsoka trailer teases the return of Hayden Christensen

In the lead-up to ‘Ahsoka’ Lucasfilm has released a trailer teasing the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker. During the trailer titled ‘Force’, Anakin can be heard giving Ahsoka advice.

He says “In this war, you will face more than just droids. As your master, it’s my responsibility to prepare you. I won’t always be there to look out for you.” Later he says “Don’t be afraid and trust your instincts. I know you can do this Ahsoka.”

It’s unclear what the context of this advice is, but hopefully, it’s during a flashback to the Clone Wars. To see such a beloved period in the ‘Star Wars’ timeline appear in live-action would be perfect.

In that war, Anakin and Ahsoka were master and apprentice, until Ahsoka left the Jedi Order after being framed for a bombing at the Jedi Temple. They fought the Confederacy of Independent Systems or Separatists, which used many different types of battle droids.

If it is set during the Clone Wars, and not for example Anakin appearing as a force ghost, Captain Rex would likely be featured. That would be brilliant. But if it’s a force ghost in the present-day, it would be just as cool, because that would give Ahsoka the chance to find out her master came back to the light side of the force.

The advice he gives Ahsoka is similar to the advice to what he says in ‘Tales of the Jedi’, where Anakin complains that the Jedi tests are only helpful against battle droids and not anything else. He then devises his own test for her, using 501st clones shooting at Ahsoka with stun rounds. Ahsoka gets stunned several times, and Anakin keeps telling her to get up.

This moment is also referenced in a different trailer, when Ahsoka is training Sabine Wren in lightsaber combat. She knocks the Mandalorian over with a stick and then tells her to get up and start again.

It looks like Dave Filoni is pulling from every era and show from ‘Star Wars’ he’s worked on to craft what will hopefully be a truly amazing experience.

The two-episode premiere of ‘Ahsoka’ releases on Disney+ on August 23.
