Paramount confirms the future of Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Paramount has confirmed the future of ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ and ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’

‘Strange New Worlds,’ currently in production for a third season, has been renewed for a fourth season on Paramount+.

‘Lower Decks,’ Paramount’s animated ‘Star Trek’ comedy, will finish its run with its fifth season, currently set to release on Paramount+ in the fall.

‘Strange New Worlds’ a prequel to the original TV series, follows a younger Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) as he commands the famous USS Enterprise.

The show was launched in 2020 and features several well-known characters like Spock (Ethan Peck), Uhura (Celia Rose Gooding), and Kirk (Paul Wesley).

“On behalf of the cast and crew of ‘Strange New Worlds,’ we are thrilled and grateful to continue our voyages together,” said executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers and executive producer Alex Kurtzman in a statement.

“We can’t wait for you to join us and the crew of the Enterprise on another season of exploration and adventure.”

Season 3 of the show will release on Paramount+ in 2025.

‘Lower Decks’ was an experiment for both Paramount+ and ‘Star Trek’ when it was first released in 2020 in its animated and comedic format.

The show follows the junior officers Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome), Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid), D’Vana Tendi (Noël Wells), and Sam Rutherford (Eugene Cordero) on the USS Cerritos and has even had a crossover episode with ‘Strange New Worlds.’

Kurtzman and executive producer and showrunner Mike McMahan left the doors open for these characters to continue in the future.

“We remain hopeful that even beyond Season 5, Mariner, Boimler, Tendi, Rutherford, and the whole Cerritos crew will live on with new adventures,” they said.

“While five seasons of any series these days seems like a miracle, it’s no exaggeration to say that every second we’ve spent making this show has been a dream come true.”

Season 5 will release in fall 2024.

Variety first reported the story.
