Original Star Wars Battlefront Games to be re-released in new bundle with extra features

Both original ‘Star Wars’ Battlefront games, ‘Star Wars Battlefront I’ and ‘Star Wars Battlefront II,’ will be re-released on modern consoles, fans learned during a Nintendo Partner Direct on February 21.

Nintendo Of America

They will be bundled together in a new release titled ‘Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection’, and will feature online play with up to 64 players and the couch co-op gameplay the games became known for.

‘Star Wars Battlefront’ was released in 2004 and ‘Star Wars Battlefront II’ was released a year later in 2005’.

Both are third-person shooters and saw players take control of various soldiers and droids from the different factions in ‘Star Wars’ to fight across the galaxy.

Bonus features will be unlocked across both games, with ‘Star Wars Battlefront I’ including the Jabba’s Palace map, and ‘Star Wars Battlefront II’ including the Bespin: Cloud City, Rhen Var: Harbor, Rhen Var: Citadel, and Yavin 4: Arena maps, and the bonus heroes Asajj Ventress & Kit Fisto.

Hero Assault, a game mode in ‘Star Wars Battlefront II’ that allowed players to battle lightside heroes with darksiders, has been expanded to all ground maps, after previously being confined on the Tatooine map.

Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr jointly developed the re-release, for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and the Steam Deck.

Both games were originally developed by the now shutdown Pandemic. When EA took on the license to make ‘Star Wars’ games, they published ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ in 2015, and ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II’ in 2017.

Many people consider those games to be less than their originals, and EA’s ‘Battlefront II’ caused a huge controversy over their monetisation.

The games also lacked the Galactic Conquest mode from the original ‘Battlefront II,’ which saw players duke it out against each other or AI for control of the galaxy.

The ‘Classic Collection’ can be pre-ordered now for $35.01, with a release on March 14. Owners of the original ‘Battlefront’ games will get a 20% discount if they pre-order.
