Nintendo reveals the new voice of Mario and Luigi

The new voice of Nintendo icons Mario and Luigi has been revealed after the veteran voice actor Charles Martinet announced his retirement.

Kevin Afghani has confirmed that he is the new voice of the Mario Bros, saying on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Incredibly proud to have voiced Mario and Luigi in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Thanks to Nintendo for inviting me into the Flower Kingdom!

His first voice role as the new Mario will be in ‘Super Mario Bros Wonder’, which is Nintendo’s next installment in the Mario franchise.

It introduces many twists on the established platforming formula, like having a power-up that changes the heroes into elephants, and other items changing the level by doing things like bringing the warp pipes to life.

Afghani has only a handful of voice credits attached to his name before being cast as Mario and Luigi.

He is the voice of Arthur in ‘Genshin Impact’ and Goku’s brother Raditz in the Team Four Star-adjacent fan series ‘Dragon Ball R&R’.

Afghani regularly posts about his gaming interests on his X account, being a fan of ‘Baldur’s Gate 3’, ‘Pikmin’, ‘Elden Ring’, ‘Pokémon’, and ‘Digimon’.

Charles Martinet announced he was stepping back from the voice of Mario and Luigi in August, and that he will become a Mario Ambassador.

‘Super Mario Bros Wonder’ will be released on Nintendo Switch on October 20.
