Keanu Reeves joins Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as Shadow the Hedgehog

Keanu Reeves will be joining the third ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

He will be voicing the iconic character Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic’s dark and edgy counterpart.

Shadow mirrors Sonic’s powers, but is more of an anti-hero. In ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ Shadow is created by depressed Doctor Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey.

Shadow was introduced to the ‘Sonic’ franchise in the 2001 video game ‘Sonic Adventure 2.’

Reeves is a much-loved actor, appearing in franchises like ‘John Wick,’ ‘Bill and Ted’ and ‘Cyberpunk 2077.’

Paramount showed off footage for the upcoming film at Cinemacon, teasing the film that’s coming out later in the year.

The first ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ film was released in 2020 and was one of the rare video game adaptations to be positively received by both critics and audiences.

The film grossed $319 million at the worldwide box office, overperforming expectations.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ was released in 2022, and once again performed well, pulling in $404 million globally.

Ben Schwartz voices the titular hedgehog, with James Marsden starring opposite him as Tom Wachowski.

Both films see Sonic and his pals enter the real world, and come into conflict with the evil Doctor Robotnik.

The plot of the upcoming threequal is still largely unknown, other than it will feature Shadow as a prominent part.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ introduced Knuckles, another Sonic antagonist voiced by Idris Elba.

He will be getting his own spin-off TV on Paramount+ at the end of April.

‘Sonic the Hedgehog 3’ will be speeding into cinemas on December 20.
