Avatar 3’s official title revealed at D23

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 3’ will officially be called ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ it was revealed at D23. 

The film will release in cinemas on December 19, 2025, picking up Jake Sully’s (Sam Worthington) story as he and his tribe continue to fight the Resources Development Administration. 

In ‘Fire and Ash’, Sully will come across new tribe of Na’vi, known as the Ash People, who will be led by Varang, played by Oona Chaplin. 

These details were shared by producer Jon Landau before his death.  

James Cameron has also teaed that the fifth film will be partially set on Earth, offering the first look at the planet in the ‘Avatar’ franchise. 

Chaplin won’t be the only newcomer to ‘Fire and Ash’, wth veteran British actor David Thewlis joining to play Peylak. 

Returning cast members not only include Worthington, but also Zoe Saldaña, Sigourney Weaver, CCH Pounder, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, Joel David Moore, Jack Champion, Giovanni Ribisi, Dileep Rao, Matt Gerald, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, Brendan Cowell, Jemaine Clement, Filip Geljo, Britain Dalton, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, and Bailey Bass.

‘Fire and Ash’ was originally scheduled to release in December 2024, but was pushed back to 2025 due to the heavy post-production process.

Cameron has already mapped out the future of the ‘Avatar’ franchise, with the fourth ‘Avatar’ film set for December 21, 2029, and the fifth ‘Avatar’ scheduled for December 19, 2031. 

He’s also already got ideas for the sixth and seventh films in the ‘Avatar’ franchise but says at that point it might outlive him. “We’re fully written through movie five, and I’ve got ideas for six and seven, although I’ll probably be handing the baton on at that point,” the director told People.
