What We Know About The Switch 2 So Far

Nintendo recently announced that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible. This means games like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Super Mario Odyssey are already available. The Metroid, Pokemon, Donkey Kong, and Xenoblade franchises are also likely coming to the new system. Details about games, a release date, and the system’s official name are still coming out. Though March 2025 is the expected release window.

The first game to be officially confirmed is Yooka-Replayee. It’s a remaster of Platonic Games’ 2017 platformer. The enhanced version will include new challenges and mechanics. The trailer confirmed all platforms it would release on, except one. It mentions Nintendo but says nothing about the Switch. This vagueness has led many to speculate it must be coming out on the still untitled console.

Other games like Hello Kitty Island Adventure, Civilization 7, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and other anticipated titles have been slated for a 2025 release. For the Switch. Civilization releases in February and Hello Kitty comes out in March. This is close enough to speculate they will also be available on the new console. Most games have little details beyond titles and teaser trailers. We’re all waiting for a confirmed list of which games Switch players can expect on the Switch 2.
