Henry Cavill joins the live-action Amazon Prime Video Voltron Movie

Henry Cavill has joined the Amazon Prime Video live-action Voltron movie.

He will join previously announced  Daniel Quinn-Toye, though so far neither of their roles have been announced.

Plot details of the production are also being kept heavily under wraps.

Rawson Marshall Thurber will direct the film using a script that he wrote with Ellen Shanman.

The original ‘Voltron’ TV show originally aired from 1984 to 1985 and was based on the Japanese series ‘Beast King GoLion and Kikou Kantai Dairugger XV’.

World Events edited and dubbed the series as a syndicated show, naming it ‘Voltron: Defender of the Universe’, which ran in the mid-1980s.

The show follows five pilots in the Robot Lions battalion, which are each vehicles that join together to form a super-sized robot called Voltron.

There have been several spin-offs, including an eight season series on Netflix called ‘Voltron: Legendary Defender’

Producers for the film will include Todd Lieberman via Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, Thurber and Hobie Films’ David Hoberman.

Cavill has a huge following for his nerdy interestes, most notably geeking out over the ‘Warhammer 40,000’ franchise.

This franchise is also set to be adapted for Amazon Prime Video, and Cavill will executive produce.

The actor recently appeared as a Wolverine varient called the Cavillrine in the ‘Deadpool’ threequel ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ from Shawn Levy.

Other 2024 film appearances include Matthew Vaughan’s spy comedy ‘Argylle’ and Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare’.

Cavill’s next film is his starring role in Chad Stahelski’s ‘Highlander” reboot and Ritchie’s action adventure film ‘In The Grey’, both for Lionsgate

A release date for the ‘Voltron’ film hasn’t been announced yet. It’s also unclear if this film will have a theatrical release, or if it will only be released on Prime Video.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.
