Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 2 trailer reaction
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has had its first trailer release, showing Captain Kirk and Spock again, with a look at how the series will unfold on June 15, 2023.
The first couple of shots show the audience the crew of the Enterprise jauntily hanging out with one another, enjoying each other’s company, and just enjoying life on deck. There is a brief look at the replacement Chief Engineer Pelia, and here’s hoping that she will be able to last longer than the past Chief Engineer, and be able to slot into the team seamlessly.
Una gives the voiceover for the trailer, which given she was caught lying to the Federation last season, can only mean that Captain Pike got her out of the situation with minimal consequences. There’s bound to be some repercussions, but there won’t be much.
Ortegas gets a chance to play pilot, shooting her way out of an asteroid field, with Spock looking extremely concerned. This is one of those moments that helps drive excitement for the new series, and shows the crew playing off of each other.
There are some exploratory shots, showing, well, strange new worlds, both from ground and in space. The Enterprise is also wrecked, which is concerning and will probably link with the main bad guy.
James Kirk arrives in the flesh, of course he will take over the ship one day, and it’s not clear if he’s here to help or cause trouble for the crewmates. Hopefully it’s the former! Two of the crewmates get flustered at his arrival, he is a thing of beauty.
Something that stands out is Spock having a hearty drink with Klingons (which look much better than Star Trek: Discovery), and, given that in this time period the Klingons are still the sworn enemies of the Federation, raises a lot of questions about what’s going on.
Amidst all this fun and games, audiences do get a return from one of the well-known Star Trek enemies, the Gorn. Season one managed to make them more terrifying than their goofy 1960s appearance, and hopefully their role will be just as scary here.
The final few moments show Captain Kirk coming against his most fearsome enemy yet…revolving doors. It’s a humorous moment, showing that Kirk is deeply unfamiliar with Earthbound technology, something that he would be. As he mentions, he’s from space.
