Donald Glover Will Star in a Sony Spider-Man Spin-off

Donald Glover is set to star in a live action Sony Spider-Man film, but not as Miles Morales. Sony aims to bring the actor and rapper into their Sonyverse collection of villains, as Hypno-Hustler.
The feature is in the early stages of production, with no director or script, but Myles Murphy is attached as a writer.
The Hypno-Hustler is one of Spider-Man’s lesser known villains. He first appeared in 1978, and his ability is that he hypnotises audiences with his guitar performances. His alter ego is Antoine Desloin, lead singer of the band called Mercy Killers, who use music to rob their fans.
Spider-Man himself won’t be part of the project, as is common with all of Sony’s new live action projects. So far, three of these projects have been released, the 2018 film Venom, the 2021 sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage, and the 2022 film Morbius.
Glover’s involvement is great news for Spider-Man fans, as Glover is a fan-favourite to play the character since a 2010 article by writer Marc Bernardin that pointed out there is no reason why Spider-Man has to be white.
Glover himself finally appeared in a Spider-Man film, in the 2017 MCU film Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis, the uncle of Miles Morales, the black teen introduced in 2011 who eventually becomes Spider-Man. The actor has also voiced Miles in the 2015 Disney XD series Ultimate Spider-Man.
Miles Morales is the star of the animated Spider-Verse films, with Shameik Moore voicing the character. He has yet to make his live action appearance.
Other characters set to appear in their own films in the Sonyverse are Kraven the Hunter and Madme Web. Kraven the Hunter will be released on October 6 2023.
