The Best Sci-Fi and Fantasy to Watch This Week
Another week brings a new slate of great releases to check out, and it’s an especially good week if you’re a fan of a certain sci-fi action franchise from the 1908s.
Predator: Killer of Killers
Streaming on Hulu/Disney+ June 6
The latest installment in the long-running sci-fi franchise, which will be turning to animation for the first time with an anthology film that follows a Predator hunting its prey in three different time periods, facing off against Vikings, Samurai, and WWII fighter pilots, in its search for a worthy opponent.
It looks like nothing that’s ever been done before in the Predator franchise. This will be the second time we see a Yuatja fighting in a historic time period, after the events of ‘Prey’, which was set in 18th century America.
‘Killer of Killers’ has another connection to the last Predator movie, as it’s also directed by Dan Trachtenberg, who seems to have taken over the franchise completely, as he has a third movie coming later this year with ‘Predator: Badlands’, so there’s plenty of alien trophy hunting action to look forward to.
All Predator Movies
Now streaming on Hulu/Disney+
If ‘Killer of Killers’ has got you in the mood for some more Yuatja action, then stay where you are, because the entire Predator franchise is streaming on Hulu/Disney+ right now. That gives you all five films right back to the 1987 original, including ‘Predator’, ‘Predator 2’, ‘Predators’, ‘The Predator’, and ‘Prey’. They even have the two ‘Alien vs Predator’ movies if you’re feeling brave, so you can binge the whole franchise if you want. They might not have the most imaginative names, but there’s some great action/horror in there.
The Life of Chuck
In limited theatres from June 6
Based on the novella of the same name by genre legend Stephen King, the movie is described as a genre-bending, life-affirming story about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man. It has a stacked cast, too, with Tom Hiddleston in the title role, alongside Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, and Matthew Lillard.
It’s in selected theatres from June 6 for a limited release, so will likely be arriving on digital not too far from now.
That’s all for this week, but there are some amazing releases coming up in the next few weeks, so be sure to check back here for the best sci-fi and fantasy to add to your watch list.
