Star Wars The Bad Batch Mission trailer

A short tease has been released for the upcoming second season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch and it gives a quick taste of the antics Cloneforce 99 will be getting up to.
The trailer is mostly a retooling of previous clips and lines from the Star Wars Celebration trailer and the trailer released earlier this month. Lucasfilm and Dave Filoni are keeping their cards close to their chest, but there are two new clips that are worth discussing.
The first is an Imperial shuttle being shot down by missiles launched by a castle in a mountainous region. The compound is similar to Teth from Star Wars: The Clone Wars film or Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine, but is clearly different. This could be part of an Imperial raid on a Separatist holdout, as it fits prior shots of Commander Cody and other clones attacking battle droids.
Separatist holdouts are a large part of the canon, but until now haven’t been depicted much on screen. The biggest presence they have had is in Star Wars: Rebels third season, where the tactical droid Kalani appeared.
But the biggest confirmation the trailer gives is that the Bad Batch will be visiting Kashyyyk. The previous trailers have given hints at this, with Trandoshans burning a forest previously and a flash shot of a Wookiee in the first trailers, but now it’s much clearer. Cloneforce 99 meets three Wookiees riding animals, wielding their signature bowcasters.
This is hardly surprising. Dave Filoni has previously confirmed that a planned arc for the Bad Batch before Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show was cancelled involved the group going to Kashyyyk with Yoda to help them from the Trandoshans. It looks like that will be adapted for The Bad Batch show, with Yoda being absent.
Kashyyyk will also serve as a showcase of the Empire’s growing influence, with them maintaining a significant presence on the planet after the Battle of Kashyyyk in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. The Empire pressed the native Wookiees into slavery, something that will probably be present in the show.
The Bad Batch is a show about a squad of defective and renegade clones in the aftermath of the Clone War. It shows the Empire growing in strength and subjecting systems to their will.
Season two will premiere on Disney+ January 4 2023.
