Sigourney Weaver Will Join Star Wars in The Mandalorian and Grogu
Sigourney Weaver, known for appearances in ‘Ghostbusters’, ‘Avatar’, and ‘Alien’, will be joining a galaxy far, far away in ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’.
In an interview with Deadline, the actress confirmed that she will be joining the next film in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise, saying that she “got to meet Grogu for the first time the other day.”
It’s unclear if the star will be an ally or foe to Din and Grogu as her role is as of yet unconfirmed.
Audiences last saw Din and Grogu at the end of ‘The Mandalorian’ season three, as the pair settledown on Nevarro after helping retake Mandalore and defeat Moff Gideon.
Din also agreed to help Captain Carson Teva of the New Republic Adelphi Rangers
The new movie has been filiming throughout the year, and at D23 audiences got a surprise first look, with footage showing appearances from some Babu Friks, the Razor Crest, and Zeb Orrelios, and included shots of a faraway snowy planet.
No other cast members or characters have been confirmed to appear in the film so far.
‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ takes place in the years following ‘Return of the Jedi’, and shows that the Imperial Remnant are slowly gaining in strength.
The last ‘Star Wars’ series in this time period was ‘Ahsoka’, and it showed the return of the Imperial Grand Admiral Thrawn, a cunning strategist and naval officer.
Disney announced the film at the start of 2024, and also confirmed that the film has a planned release date of May 22, 2026.
This will end the seven year absence ‘Star Wars’ has had from the big screen, with the last film to release in cinemas was 2019’s ‘The Rise of Skywalker’.
It’s the first of four other planned films, one from Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy following Daisy Ridley’s Rey Skywalker after ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, one from James Mangold exploring the origins of the Jedi, and one from Dave Filoni following the war between the New Republic and Imperial Remnant.
