Secret Level Official Trailer Reaction

‘Secret Level’ has a new trailer, demonstrating above all that fans can expect a series that will be going for high emotions when the first episode releases on December 10. The full cast for the series is also confirmed, posting some huge names, which will make audiences super excited. The series’ animation also comes into sharper focus, with a focus on hyper-realistic style for each games. This above all is a bold choice, as many of these games had pre-defined art styles that audiences might not want to part with.

Rightaway, audiences get a look at the emotional resonance the series is going for, with one of the characters talking about the sins she did and how they’re still a part of her. She has to fight against that version of herself everyday, and doesn’t always win. A lot of the trailer is like this, discussing heavy things like honour and getting in touch with emotions. It has the feeling of the show wanting to prove that videogames ARE art. And that’s not something anyone should disagree with, games certainly are more than the code that makes them up, but this trailer lays that idea on a bit thick.

Audiences do get a good luck at a handful of the games that will be involved in the series, with clips of Space Marines fighting hordes of enemies on dusty planet. With the recent success of ‘Warhammer 40K: Space Marines 2’, the franchise is riding high, which hopefully will benefit the episode for it in ‘Secret Level’. Mega Man is also featured, as well as the Yakuza series. It does look like there will be a lot of action in this series alongside the emotionalism.

The series is opting to use what looks like a consistent art style across the fifteen different episodes. While this makes production much easier – reports are that the show took three years to develop even with this ease – it does have the consequence of abandoning the art style that is unique to each game. It’s not something audiences will be able to know properly until the show is out. Hyper-realism will work for some games, but likely not all. ‘Spelunky’ is an example of this style possibly not working.

Audiences got a list of stacked cast present in the show, like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Keanu Reeves, Kevin Hart, Emily Swallow, Temuera Morrison, and many more. It’s a strong showing, with Amazon clearly having faith in the show.

Getting to the elephant in the room, the series will still feature the episode about ‘Concord’ despite its unprecedented failure. Though since this series has been in production for years, the decision to not throw the ‘Concord’ episode is unsurprising.

The first episode of ‘Secret Level’ releases on December 10.
