Props from Star Trek: The Original Series held by William Shatner to go on Auction in November

A phaser and communicator used as props by William Shatner’s James T. Kirk  in ‘Star Trek: The Original Series’ will be put on display through July 28 at the Comic-Con Museum in San Diego.

The props, which were first created in 1966, haven’t been seen in over 50 years, and will be available for purchase in an auction later this year at Julien’s Auctions/TCM Hollywood.

Both phaser and communicator have been authenticated by veteran ‘Star Trek’ prop collector and researcher Dn Hillenbrand using screen-matching techniques to match details and flaws on the props to the ones seen in the series.

The original owner of the props, a late relative of the current owners, was a Hollowod prop veteran who likely acquiried them from a former employee at Paramount Pictures, home of ‘Star Trek.’

The two props are “hero” versions of the items, which means they were well-crafted enough to appear in close-up shots of Kirk. The auction house labels them as “exceedingly rare.”

Julien’s Auctions has identified that the ‘Star Trek’ episodes “The Gamesters of Triskelion” and “The Cloud Minders,” while the communicator with its spinning dial can be seen in “Catspaw,” “Friday’s Child,” and “Day of the Dove.”

After the pieces have been on display, they will go on the block at Julien’s Auctions/TCM Hollywood event Nov. 9 in Los Angeles.

“We are extremely honored to present at our exhibition the holy grail of the original Star Trek series props,” said David Goodman, CEO of Julien’s Auctions.

Currently, each piece is conservatively estimated to sell for $100,000 to $200,000.
