Nicholas Hoult in talks to play Lex Luthor in James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy

Nicholas Hoult is currently in talks to appear as notorious Superman bad guy, Lex Luthor.

This latest casting report comes from Deadline, who say that the casting is a done deal, but it has yet to be officially confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery or DC Studios co-head James Gunn.

Hoult is no stranger to comic book movies, having played the role of Beast in the prequel trilogy of ‘X-Men’ films.

Several roles for the upcoming 2025 movie have now been filled, with David Corenswet to play Clark Kent/Superman and Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Superman’s lover Lois Lane.

Skyler Gisondo will be playing Jimmy Olsen, and María Gabriela de Faría will be taking on the role of The Engineer in an antagonistic role.

Luthor is a well-known villain and one who has regularly fought Superman.

He has no superpower but he is a genius and his status as a billionaire industrialist allows him to create schemes and weapons to even the playing field against the Man of Steel.

In the DCEU, Jesse Eisenberg took on the role of the villain and caused Batman and Superman to fight each other.

Previous Luthor actors include Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey.

The character will appear in the upcoming fourth and final season of ‘Superman and Lois’ on The CW where he will be portrayed by Michael Cudlitz.

‘Superman Legacy’ is the official start of the new DC continuity.

DC Studios co-heads Gunn and Peter Safran laid out their plans for a new slate of films at the start of 2023.

Titled ‘Gods and Monsters’, the first chapter of the new DC era will unofficially kick off with an animated TV show about the Creature Commandos, with the first film being ‘Superman: Legacy’ in 2025.

2025 also marks the return of Robert Pattinson’s Batman in ‘The Batman – Part II’.

‘Superman: Legacy’ will hit cinemas on July 11, 2025.
