New Space Odyssey Series Announced in Unexpected Collab
Dark Horse Comics has just announced an ambitious new sci-fi comic series titled Space Scouts,
and it’s already turning heads for its unconventional blend of influences and creators. It’s being
praised as a mix of Ender’s Game, 1984, and classic space epics, and the series aims to deliver
both a thrilling interstellar adventure plus haunting commentary on surveillance and control.
What makes Space Scouts even more intriguing is the creative team behind it. The series is co-
created by writer Clay McLeod Chapman and artist Giannis Milonogiannis, both known for their
work in pushing genre boundaries. Chapman’s horror specialties, showcased in Scream: Curse
of Carnage and Venom: Separation Anxiety, paired with Milonogiannis’ futuristic flair from
Prophet and Old City Blues, makes for a unique partnership and it’s one that’s expected to shine
in this fresh take on space-age storytelling.
A Story of Control in the Stars

At its core, Space Scouts launches a teenage protagonist from reality TV veneers into unrelenting
cosmic warfare. Initially pitched as a reality show to select the next generation of galactic
guardians, the competition spirals into a deadly ordeal as winners are deployed into an endless
war zone at the universe’s edge.
Kindt describes the series as a long-held dream project, allowing for thousands of teenage
super‑powered recruits, alien cultures, and genre-blending thrills all tied to a competition model
reminiscent of vintage 1950s Superboy covers.
For his part, Rubín praises Kindt as a creative collaborator who constantly challenges and
inspires him, enabling artistic experimentation while remaining grounded in emotional
storytelling. This is their fourth team-up, and the creators are already hinting it won’t be the last
At its core, Space Scouts examines how institutions exploit innocence and curiosity for
authoritarian aims. Chapman notes in a recent interview that the series is “a cautionary tale about
how we weaponize youth, how trust can be manipulated, and what it means to fight for personal
freedom when your entire life has been engineered for obedience.”
Readers can anticipate character-driven tension layered beneath high-stakes sci-fi spectacles.
Expect emotional arcs, betrayals, and the collapse of televised control as recruits face endless
war.Bonus content in each issue means early fans get behind-the-scenes access to concept art,
world-building sketches, and variant covers, making each issue feel like an artifact as well as a
story.
The parallels to modern-day issues ranging from child soldiering to media brainwashing are
intentional. But Space Scouts doesn’t preach. Instead, it wraps its themes in pulse-pounding
pacing, high-stakes missions, and interpersonal drama that’s as gripping as it is unsettling.
Departing from standard comic dimensions, Space Scouts will be published in oversized,
magazine‑sized issues (8″ × 10.875″) to amplify its cinematic scope. Each 32‑page issue is
packed with bonus material, including character art and variant covers by visionaries like Sergio
Aragonés, Brian Hurtt, and Álvaro Martínez Bueno.
This oversized presentation promises visual room for Rubín’s kinetic art to shine, especially in
scenes of psychological breakdown, interstellar conflict, and the isolated loneliness of space,
contrasted with TV-show theatricality.
A Strong First Impression

Space Scouts #1 of 3 debuts on November 5, 2025, with each issue priced at $7.99 and sporting a
different artist variant cover: Aragonés on the first issue, followed by Hurtt and Martínez Bueno
for issues two and three.
Kindt, an Eisner-nominated writer, and Rubín, acclaimed for his dynamic visuals, previously
collaborated on Ether. Their work was praised for its blend of magical realism and scientific
wonder. Space Scouts promises to push that collaboration into bolder territory.
