Lupin the IIIrd The Movie Nears Release
The upcoming film Lupin the IIIrd The Movie: Fujimi no Ketsuzoku (Immortal Bloodline) is set to premiere in Japanese theaters on June 27, 2025. Directed by Takeshi Koike—the creative force behind past entries like Jigen’s Gravestone and Goemon’s Blood Spray—and penned by Yuya Takahashi, this marks the first full-length 2D Lupin feature in nearly 30 years. Produced by Telecom Animation Film and TMS Entertainment, with music by James Shimoji and creative input from Katsuhito Ishii, the movie brings back the classic Lupin tone of heist thrills, crime capers, and suave animation.
In the new teaser visual and trailer, viewers are treated to glimpses of Lupin and his team venturing to a mysterious island in search of a hidden treasure, with the rock duo B’z returning to deliver the theme song “THE IIIRD Eye.” This installment is expected to tie together long-running narrative threads from the “Koike era,” possibly revisiting the shadowy Mamo conspiracy hinted at in earlier films. The film retains Lupin’s iconic supporting cast—Kanichi Kurita (Lupin), Akio Ōtsuka (Jigen), Miyuki Sawashiro (Fujiko), Daisuke Namikawa (Goemon), and Koichi Yamadera (Zenigata)
A prequel short, Lupin the IIIrd: Zenigata to Futari no Lupin, will debut via streaming on June 20. It offers a high-stakes side story featuring Inspector Zenigata facing off against a “fake Lupin” in a terrorism-related case. With Fujimi no Ketsuzoku reviving the 2D cinematic format and continuing the Koike-crafted saga, 2025 promises to be a landmark year for Lupin enthusiasts. Posters and trailers showcase a visually dynamic adventure for both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
