Live-action Spider-Woman cast to appear in Madame Web
Sydney Sweeney has been cast in the role of the live-action iteration of Spider-Woman according to Variety.
In a story to promote their latest magazine, Variety spoke to Sweeney, where it was revealed she will play the web-slinger.
Sweeney’s version of Spider-Woman will be Julia Carpenter, the second person to take on the name of Spider-Woman.
The original Spider-Woman, known as Jessica Drew, has recently appeared in the animated movie ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’, where she was voiced by Issa Rae.
Sweeney is best known for her role in the TV show ‘Euphoria’ following teenagers in the fictional town of East Highland, California.
She will appear in the upcoming ‘Madame Web’ movie opposite Dakota Johnson, who will play Cassandra Webb, aka Madame Web.
In the comics, Cassandra is a clairvoyant mutant and first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #210, published in November 1980.
Julia Carpenter has also taken on the name of Madame Web.
Plot details are tight on the film, with nothing being released so far.
It will be released in cinemas on February 16, 2024.
The film is part of Sony’s live-action Spider-Man movies, though this is the first time that a version of the webhead will appear since they were rebooted with the ‘Venom’ film in 2017.
Other movies that take place in what has been dubbed as the Sonyverse include ‘Morbius’, ‘Kraven the Hunter’, and ‘El Muerto’.
After Sony delayed ‘Kraven the Hunter’ to August 30, 2024, ‘Madame Web’ is now the next Sonyverse film set for release.
