Live-Action Sci-Fi and Fantasy News from Netflix’s Geeked Week

September 16 to 19 was Netflix’s Geeked Week, the streamer’s annual expo of upcoming projects. As usual, Netflix gave us some sneak peeks at future movies and shows, as well as announcing new content that will be hitting the platform in the next few months.

There was plenty of news of live-action movies and shows that could become your next favorite watch. These are the biggest announcements.

El Eternauta

One of the most interesting new shows coming next year is ‘El Eternauta’ (‘The Eternaut’), an adaptation of the graphic novel by Argentinian writer Hector German Oesterheld. A toxic snowfall covers the Earth, killing millions of humans when it lands on them, leaving the survivors to fight against a mysterious, unseen alien threat.

Keep an eye on this one, as it’s scheduled to release in 2025, though an exact date hasn’t been revealed yet.

The Platform 2

A sequel to the 2019 movie ‘The Platform’, set in a future where people are housed in a dystopian prison where meals are dished out vertically, and those at the top get the best food, while the lower levels have to take whatever’s left, leading to resentment and conflict.

In ‘The Platform 2’, a new leader takes over the prison, as a fight begins against this brutal system. This Spanish language thriller will be coming to Netflix on October 4 this year.

It’s What’s Inside

A strange mix of comedy, sci-fi, and thriller, ‘It’s What’s Inside’ follows a group of friends at a pre-wedding party, where things take a weird turn when one of them arrives with a mysterious machine that can induce body swaps.

From what’s been revealed so far, it looks like this could be a surreal watch. The movie was celebrated at Sundance Film Festival and SXSW earlier this year, and will be getting released on Netflix on October 4.

Hellbound season 2

The ‘Hellbound’ series shows a world where people are sentenced to Hell by a mysterious being called an ‘angel’. In the second season, Jung Jinsu and Park Jungja, who were formerly condemned to Hell, return to the world of the living. Does this mark the beginning of salvation?

The show premiered in 2021, becoming one of Netflix’s biggest hits. The second season of this dark fantasy thriller arrives on October 25.

Tomorrow and I

A four episode Thai anthology series, ‘Tomorrow and I’ takes a look at our relationship with technology, and will explore themes of the modern world and ancient world coming into conflict, as well as the hot topic of artificial intelligence.

No date has been announced yet, with Netflix simply saying it will be released this
