King Spawn the official Movie Title for Todd McFarlane’s Character

Todd McFarlane and Blumhouse have revealed the official title for the long gestating Spawn movie, ‘King Spawn’.

Blumhouse unveiled the title and logo for the film on its Twitter account, letting fans know that the project is still on track.

McFarlane has been interested in a followup movie to the 1997 ‘Spawn’ film for over a decade.

In 2005, McFarlane spoke to IGN about his plans for sequel, saying that idea “In a perfect world, I’d like to put it out next year [2006]. I’m in the middle of writing it now. It depends how many times I go over the script.”

He confirmed that the film was still in development as late as 2016, and Blumhouse announced they were on board in 2017.

A year later in 2018, ‘Django Unchained’ actor Jamie Foxx was on board to star.

Fans would continue to get positive updates from Blumhouse and McFarlane, with McFarlane saying in September 2023 that the project was “nearing the finish line”.

In that same month, Jason Blum, CEO of Blumhouse, announced tentative release year of 2025.

Speaking to ComicBook.com in 2023, McFarlane said “My original plan has gotten tripped up a bit.

“We’re bringing on A-list people. Not just one, but multiple A-list people… What they’re not going to want is to do a cheap, low-budget movie with all of these big-name people on it. That’s not why they’re signing up. They’re not looking for a big extravaganza. But, they’re also not looking for an 8 million dollar horror movie budget.”

The current iteration of the scipt has writers Matt Mixon, Malcolm Spellman, and Scott Silver attached to the project.

‘Spawn’ was created in by McFarlane in 1992, and is an antihero called Albert Francis “Al” Simmons, an ex-mercenary who died, made a deal with Malebolgia in Hell, and comes back as a Hellspawn.
