Indiana Jones’ Temple of Doom hat sells for $630k at Los Angeles Auction
The iconic brown felt fedora worn by actor Harrison Ford in the 1984 film ‘Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom’ has been sold at auction for over half a million dollars.
The hat, made specifically for the film, went for $630,000 in Los Angeles.
It was sold alongside other props and items from other cornerstone sci-fi and fantasy franchises, like ‘Star Wars’, ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘James Bond’.
Jones, a daring archaeologist, is seen with the hat throughout the film.
He nearly loses it during a frightful escape from a crushing room in the Temple of Kali with nightclub singer Wilhelmina “Willie” Scott, played by Kate Capshaw and Short Round, a 12-year-old, played by Ke He Quan.
Ford’s stunt double, Dean Ferrandini, is said to have worn the hat, and was sold with previously unpublished photos of the stuntman wearing the now famous costume on location.
Ferrandini passed away last year, with the hat coming from his personal collection.
Auction house Propstore said the sable-coloured fedora was an update to the one seen in the first Indiana Jones film in 1981, ‘Raiders Of The Lost Ark’, as it had a “more tapered crown”.
The Herbert Johnson Hat Company in London created the hat, the inside lining features gold monogrammed initials “IJ” – Indiana Jones.
