Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire trailer reaction

Godzilla and Kong return in the trailer for ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ as audiences discover a new monster that the pair must team up to defeat. It teases huge monster fights and destructive action set pieces; just what audiences have come to expect from this franchise.

The trailer starts with a seismograph, something that detects the strength of earthquakes. And wherever this graph is, it’s detecting a massive earthquake, most likely the monster of the movie getting ready to rear its ugly head and reveal itself to the world. The voiceover states that humanity thought that creatures only lived on the surface, but in this movie, they learn that this was incorrect, and there are monsters deep underground who now crave sunlight.

Audiences then get a look at Kong as he meets a cute little baby Kong creature (every franchise needs a cute baby), who will no doubt need to be protected throughout the movie. There’s a giant handprint on some ruins, but who it belongs to is unclear because it isn’t Kong. The trailer then goes deep underground, revealing skulls of previously killed animals. This is where some of the new lore will come from, as the trailer promises a deeper exploration of Skull Island.

This new monster is confirmed to be an evil Kong, though it must be stronger if the heroic Kong needs Godzilla’s help to defeat him. Speaking of the big guy, he explodes out of some ice in an epic shot, ready to help his friend in the coming fight. He’s still armed with his atomic breath, which will surely annihilate this evil Kong, basked in red as he sits on his throne.

But audiences will have to wait until ‘Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire’ releases in cinemas on April 12, 2024, to see who the victor of this colossal fight will be.
