Gamescom Kicks Off With A Look At Diablo 4’s Expansion And Some Exciting Games Coming Next Year

Gamescom has started and is already announcing a lot of projects to be excited about. The new Indiana Jones title is slated for a December 9th release with a PlayStation release planned for Spring 2025. There are also two Xbox Series X and one Xbox Series S consoles up for pre-order. They’re digital only and are cheaper than the current versions that include a disc drive. We also got to see gameplay footage for Diablo Immortal that includes a Diablo focused campaign, Stalker 2: The Heart of Chernobyl that showed off its stealth and realistic survival elements, Starfield’s new expansion and first vehicle, Dustborn, and Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon are coming to Xbox. There were a few big highlights from day one of Gamescom.

Xbox
  1. Atomfall

Atomfall is a post-apocalyptic survival game set in Britain where players will not only have an open world to explore, but a variety of routes to complete the game. Whether that’s diving into combat or taking the stealthier, no killing approach. The game will also be filled with references to the 50s style of sci-fi storytelling with many callbacks to early Doctor Who during Rebellion’s presentation. Atomfall’s mystery will unfold through exploration and dialogue where the player must choose who’s telling the truth. All while scavenging through rural villages and surrounding countryside to build weapons if you want to live.

  1. Revenge of a Savage Planet

Revenge of the Savage Planet is a tongue-in-cheek look at the effects of corporate greed. In this case, players will take on the role of employees who’ve been made redundant and left to fend for themselves. You will need to explore every inch of four unique planets, and maybe more, for upgrades if you plan to make it back to earth. The worlds are vibrant while footage shows off lassos, jetpacks, and a goo gun that lets you solve problems in interesting ways. It features crossplay as well as couch co-op to give a more “old school” experience.

  1. Diablo 4

Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred without a doubt was a big focus of the day one presentations. We were shown a look at the dungeons and group finder coming to the game. There’s also going to be a new timed dungeon where players can scale their rewards based on difficulty and the tribulations they choose. On top of these changes there will be four mercenaries that players can bring along with them on adventures. In a group, only the leader will be able to bring one along. These companions come with a rapport system that unlocks more abilities as they grow to like you. We also got a brief look at the new Spiritborn class that has different specs which can all be combined to create a playstyle that’s more personalized. There were also some promises that player progression would get a huge upgrade in season six, but exact details weren’t given.
