Doctor Who Season 2 Trailer Reaction
The second season of Ncuti Gatwa’s time as Doctor Who is fast arriving, and to hype audiences up, there’s been a new trailer giving fans their first look at what they can expect. New companion Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu) takes center stage, as an unwittingly companion wrapped up in the Doctor’s latest adventures.
Chandra seems new to all this galactic adventures and time travel, but this does seem like a front. She wants to go by The Nurse, likely a hint to some healing abilities that she’ll either gain or unlock. The whole series is built around getting Chandra home, it’s unclear why this is so important at this stage. Unfortunately for her, the Doctor will be taking her the long way round! The Doctor hints that there’s something connecting the two, but it’s not clear yet what this could be.
At the start of the trailer, there’s a series of scenarios that the Doctor will find himself in. The one that sounds out the most though is one with the skeleton of a dinosaur rampaging about a city. It’s not clear what magic or sci-fi technology is fuelling this rampage, but it does look cool. It looks like something out of the ‘Night at the Museum’ movies.
Something else that stands out from the trailer is how much this season will be leaning into the more whimsical side of The Doctor. There’ll be an interstellar song competition with a cameo from commentator Rylan Clark for example, along with a cartoon bad guy popping out the screen to terrorize 1950s audiences (and likely will terrorize modern audiences if the Doctor doesn’t stop it). Belinda teases the Doctor by calling him Scooby-Doo, driven by food and a scaredy dog, but the Doctor humorously retorts he’s Velma, the smarty pants of the Scooby Doo gang.
The sci fi elements of the story are played up too, with some horror themed aliens, and a massive battle with ships blasting a city to pieces. Among all this, the Doctor has to keep Belinda safe, and audiences will find out on April 12 if he’s able to do it.
