Disney confirms The Mandalorian and Grogu movie will hit cinemas in 2026

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ movie will hit cinemas in 2026 Disney confirms in an earnings call.

Bob Iger revealed the film will mark a new start for ‘Star Wars’ films, with several being announced already.

A potential production start date for the film also emerged via a listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s production tracking services, which lists shooting for the film beginning on June 17, 2024, in Los Angeles.

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ was a surprise ‘Star Wars’ film announcement in January, which will see Pedro Pascal and Grogu go on adventures together throughout the galaxy.

2026 will see the release of two ‘Star Wars’ films, with Disney previously announcing that one will arrive on May 22, and another on December 18.

It’s unclear which slot ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will release.

According to a new listing on the Film & Television Industry Alliance’s production tracking service (via ComicBook.com), The Mandalorian & Grogu will begin shooting in Los Angeles on June 17, 2024.

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will be directed by the series creator, Jon Favreau, and he will also produce alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni

‘The Mandalorian and Grogu’ will be the first ‘Star Wars film to hit cinemas since ‘Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker’ in 2019.

This isn’t for lack of trying though, as over the years several projects failed to get off the ground, including a film by ‘Wonder Woman’ director Patty Jenkins titled ‘Rogue Squadron’ set for 2023, and one by Marvel President Kevin Feige.

Lucasfilm announced three ‘Star Wars’ films at Star Wars Celebrations 2023, one to be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, one by ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ director James Mangold, and another by Dave Filoni.

Each will focus on different areas of the ‘Star Wars’ timeline, expanding it in unique ways.
