Arcane’ Season 2 Episode 6 Review

Episode six of ‘Arcane’ ups the stakes as we approach the final arc of this season.

Hoping to find someone to help their father, Vander, Vi and Jinx take him to a mysterious healer in the Undercity, which is actually Viktor, who’s used his powers acquired from the Arcane to set up a commune where he heals people and allows them to live in peace and safety.

Here it is, this is the best episode of the season so far, which in itself is quite a high bar, and there’s a lot to get into

When Jayce came out of the Arcane in the previous episode, I thought it was the moment that things were really going to change, and it was. I’m not going to lie, there were time during the first couple of episodes where I felt this show wasn’t reaching its full potential, but now I think it is heading towards a finale that will be every bit as amazing and devastating as the first season’s.

Almost the entire episode takes place in the commune set up by Viktor, but it uses every second to its advantage, Despite being this far into the show, the true nature of the Arcane’s power is largely a mystery, but here we get to see what it’s really capable of when used right, as Viktor puts it to good use for the benefit of others.

Then there’s the way this show is ruthless with its characters, as we get one of the first major deaths this season, as Viktor is killed by Jayce, who was once his best friend, and still probably is, though he seems to not be in control of himself, and is under the control of the Arcane, it seems. What really is going on here? I feel like this will be one of the biggest plotlines going into the final arc.

There’s also Caitlyn turning against Ambessa and siding with Vi once again, as they try to save Vander from being turned into a weapon.

The animation and action in this episode are both spectacular. They have been all season, but here there’s so much emotion and energy behind it all. It’s not just flashiness, but really means something and has weight to it. You can see the effort put into every frame, and the talent behind the scenes.

What this episode does is contextualise all the moments, scenes, and storylines from the rest of the season, and makes them come together to form something bigger. There are so many questions till to be resolved in the final three episodes before the show comes to an end, but this feels like the moment it really comes alive and matches, even exceeds, the first season. How it will all end is anyone’s guess, as quite literally anything can happen in this show.
