Ahsoka gets August 23 release date

The Ahsoka series will premiere on Disney+ on August 23, as announced by the official Star Wars Twitter account.

This was accompanied with some new footage, showing the Mandalorian Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) wielding Ezra Bridger’s lightsaber and fighting Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno).

Ahsoka follows Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson) after the fall of the Empire as she searches for Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) and Ezra Bridger. It will be eight episodes long.

Dave Filoni spoke to Empire Magazine as part of their June issue, which features Ahsoka as the cover story.

He called Ahsoka “a wanderer” at the start of the show, and said she is wary of institutions, and that the show will be about her learning to open up again.

There will be other characters coming from the animated Star Wars: Rebels, such as Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and Chopper.

Another familiar face includes Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), leader of the New Republic.

Thrawn won’t be the only antagonist in the show. Morgan Elsbeth (Diana Lee Inosanto) is returning, first appearing in The Mandalorian season two.

Others include an Order 66 survivor Baylon Skoll (Ray Stevenson), and an as of yet unnamed Inquisitor.

It is rumoured that Hayden Christiansen will make an appearance as Anakin Skywalker, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Ahsoka is one of the shows that will be building up to Dave Filoni’s as of yet untitled movie about the New Republic against the Imperial Remnant.
