A Spider-Man Miles Morales film is in development at Sony
A live-action Spider-Man film centred on Miles Morales is in development at Sony, producer Amy Pascal confirms.
Speaking to Variety on Tuesday at the Los Angeles premiere for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the producer said “It’s all happening.”
Another producer at the studio, Avi Arad, teased that an animated film about Spider-Woman will be in cinemas “sooner than you expect.”
Miles Morales is an alternate version of Spider-Man, with an African American father and a Puerto Rican mother.
In recent years the character has seen a rise in popularity, thanks to his starring role in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and in the 2020 video game, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales.
Pascal also provided an update on Tom Holland’s fourth Spider-Man film.
“Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she said.
Development on the film has been paused due to the ongoing writer’s strike.
Hailee Steinfeld, who provides the voice of Gwen Stacy in both Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse seems like she might be willing to voice the character in a Spider-Woman film.
“This is like my dream job, sign me up over and over again,” she said about doing voice work.
Across the Spider-Verse is the second film in a planned trilogy starring Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore.
The first film was Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and was released in 2018. The final film in the trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will release on March 29, 2024.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Justin K. Thompson and Kemp Powers, and is written by Phil Lord, Christopher Miller and Dave Callaham.
The cast also includes Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Rachel Dratch, Shea Whigham, Leland “Metro Boomin” Wayne, Ziggy Marley, Ayo Edebiri and Danielle Perez.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse releases in cinemas on June 2.
