Most Anticipated Sci-Fi Films of 2025
Moviegoers love sci-fi not just for its futuristic tech world, but for the way it explores the unknown. They’re also huge crowd pullers and big box office earners. With your excitement building, here are 5 of the most anticipated upcoming sci-fi movies of 2025.
Jurassic World Rebirth
Releasing on July 4
This upcoming Gareth Edwards sci-fi tracks Zora Bennett and her crew, who travel far to gather dinosaur DNA to manufacture cures for humankind. Jurassic World Rebirth is a much-needed sequel to Jurassic World Dominion, and connects the new story to the original park’s legacy while bringing in a fresh-faced cast, including Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Rupert Friend.
Superman
Releasing on July 11
James Gunn’s Superman is easily one of the year’s most talked-about releases, and a hot topic of debate between Snyder loyalists and Gunn fans. Some argue Gunn’s version is too colorful and light, while many are happy to see Superman return to its hopeful roots. Whatever the case, we’re all curious to see Superman, Guy Gardner, Mister Terrific, and Hawkgirl in one film. Also, seeing Nicholas Hoult as the bald villain is going to be something fans won’t want to miss.
Tron: Ares
Releasing on October 10
Tron: Ares is a far cry from the classic Tron formula. Instead of a human getting pulled into the digital world, this time a sentient program named Ares (played by Jared Leto) breaks out digital world and passes into the real one. It’s a risky move, especially since many fans were hoping the story would pick up where Joseph Kosinski’s Tron: Legacy left off, with more high-speed races. Still, this fresh direction could breathe new life into the franchise, and if it lands well, maybe we won’t have to wait another 15 years for the next installment.
Avatar: Fire and Ash
Releasing on December 19
Scheduled for worldwide release on December 19, Avatar: Fire and Ash, will see Jake and Neytiri coming face-to-face with the Ash People, a Na’vi clan that yearns for blood and war. Unlike the blue giants we see in the first films, this clan has abandoned the way of Eywa. Avatar: Fire and Ash is a major shift from the first two films, with the internal conflict of Na’vi clans clashing with each other.
The Running Man
Releasing on November 7
The Running Man is back again, this time with Ben Richards (Glen Powell), a father who has no choice but to say yes to playing a game show that guarantees either death or money to procure funds for his daughter’s surgery. There aren’t many changes from the original, players are still hunted by killers in a deadly game. What remains to be seen is if this 2025 version will step out of the original’s shadow or if it’ll end up stuck, suffocated by what came before.
