By the Power of Grayskull! ‘Masters of the Universe’ Live-Action Film Set for 2026 Release

Eternia is set to return to the big screen as a new live-action “Masters of the Universe” film is
officially in production and slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2026. The highly
anticipated project comes from Mattel Films and Amazon MGM Studios, promising a fresh take
on the iconic animated series.

At the helm of this epic fantasy adventure is director Travis Knight, known for his work on Kubo
and the Two Strings and Bumblebee. Leading the charge as the heroic He-Man/Prince Adam is
Nicholas Galitzine (Red, White & Royal Blue, The Idea of You). He will wield the Power Sword
against the nefarious Skeletor, who will be portrayed by Jared Leto.

Plot details suggest an origin story for the iconic hero. The film is expected to follow a young
Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship as a ten-year-old and was separated from his
magical Power Sword—his only link to his home on Eternia. Nearly two decades later, after
tracking down the sword, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet
from the evil forces of Skeletor. To defeat such a powerful villain, he must first uncover the
mysteries of his past and embrace his destiny as He-Man: the most powerful man in the
Universe. Some reports also suggest the film may initially depict Adam working a “boring office
job” in the “real world,” with the tales of Eternia being stories he heard as a child.

Filming is currently underway, with behind-the-scenes footage and concept art reportedly
showcased at industry events like CinemaCon. Descriptions from the event teased massive sets
for Eternia, iconic weaponry like the Sword of Power, and costumes accurate to the beloved
source material, hinting at a blend of practical effects and VFX.

This marks the first live-action Masters of the Universe film since the 1987 iteration. After a long
development journey with various iterations at different studios, the project landing at Amazon
MGM with Mattel Films has generated significant buzz among fans eager to see He-Man on the
big screen once more.
