A New Star Wars Film Awaits, Following the Events of ‘Mandalorian’
The Star Wars galaxy continues to expand, and fans are eagerly anticipating the upcoming
release of The Mandalorian and Grogu, set for release on May 22, 2026. This film marks being
the first Star Wars movie to hit cinemas since The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, and promises to
bring the beloved duo of Din Djarin and Grogu to the big screen for an all-new adventure.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the film is a direct continuation of the immensely popular Disney+
series The Mandalorian. While specific plot details are still under wraps, it’s expected that the
movie will build upon the events of the show, particularly the third season which saw Din Djarin
and Grogu settling on Nevarro while Din also undertakes missions for the New Republic. This
new role for the Mandalorian as a New Republic operative could very well place him and Grogu
in the path of lingering Imperial threats and perhaps even tie into the larger narrative involving
the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, as seen in the Ahsoka series.
The confirmed cast includes the return of Pedro Pascal as the titular Mandalorian, Din Djarin,
and the ever-charming Grogu. Joining them are some exciting new additions: Sigourney Weaver
will play a veteran pilot for the Rebel Alliance named Colonel Bishop, who apparently sends Din
Djarin on a mission to the Outer Rim. Jeremy Allen White will lend his voice to Rotta the Hutt,
the son of the infamous Jabba the Hutt, marking the character’s first live-action appearance
after previously featuring in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars film. Additionally, Jonny
Coyne is set to reprise his role as an Imperial Warlord, hinting at the ongoing struggle against
the remnants of the fallen Empire.
As the release date approaches, anticipation is building to see what new challenges and
adventures await this unlikely father-son duo in the vast and exciting Star Wars galaxy. The
Mandalorian and Grogu promises to be a must-see cinematic event for fans old and new,
bridging the gap between the beloved streaming series and the future of the Star Wars saga in
theaters.
