Coridden Has An Interesting Gimmick Nestled Within A Retro-Style Package
Coridden is an action RPG set in a unique prehistoric world, with fallen technology strewn around. Gameplay starts pretty quickly despite the depth of lore. Its writing can be rough at times but remains entertaining throughout. Players also get a variety of creatures they can transform into. There’s also a decent amount of choice when it comes to building the human character. It scratches the itch for an old school adventure.
The big draw of becoming a giant reptile doesn’t lose its luster. It manages this by not restricting this to combat. In co-op players can combine skills and even taxi each other around. Or even engage in mounted combat. Strategy and communication play a big part. Managing stamina by switching between forms to avoid cooldowns is also vital. Players can mix and match classes and DNA. This makes the gameplay feel more personalized.

An unfortunate drawback is the lack of distinction between siblings. Players will pick between one of four but dialogue choices don’t seem to change much. That being said, the story’s focus on family comes off as natural. The top down camera can feel cumbersome during exploration. There’s no minimap so this makes it easy to get lost in larger areas. Enemies won’t change much, though the AI will make attempts to strategize.
Coridden has a bright world full of character. Its sound design makes every location feel alive. And each skill effect is satisfying. Though combat itself is simple with no combos to worry about. While playing, you may get a strange sense of nostalgia for a new game.
