‘The Electric State’ Trailer Breakdown

Netflix has dropped a new trailer for ‘The Electric State’, their big budget sci-fi movie which is due to release early next year.

The film is set in a future where humans have fought and won a war against robots, based on the book by Simon Stalenhag, it stars Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt in the leading roles.

The trailer shows some flashbacks to the war with the robots, in which Chris Pratt’s character fought as a soldier, with a voiceover explaining how the robots rebelled against their assigned tasks, and turned against humanity, which led to them being banished to The Electric State, a secure piece of land where they were allowed to exist in peace, separated from the rest of the world.

Michelle’s (Millie Bobby Brown) brother is missing, apparently in the Electric State, and she’s approached by a robot who seems to know where he is, and can lead her to him.

Keats (Chris Pratt) says he stopped fighting because the war against the robots was wrong, and tells Michelle he’ll go with her to help her get her brother back. Despite the former hostility of the bots, it doesn’t look like any of them are hostile in the trailer, which raises questions of why the war was fought.

The movie looks interesting, and is one of the biggest and most expensive productions ever undertaken by Netflix, in contrast to a lot of their other films, which are low-budget, and often low-effort, endeavours.

It’s directed by the Russo brothers, who are best known for their work in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with credits for some of its best loved movies, like Captain America: ‘The Winter Soldier’, and ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which promises some good things will come from it. It could potentially be one of the streamer’s biggest hits, as both Chris Pratt and Millie Bobby Brown being popular actors, and the latter having previous hits for Netflix with movies like ‘Enola Holmes’ and ‘Damsel’.

As you’d expect, there’s also going to be plenty of comedy in it, and it has a distinctive look to it, and seems to be marketed as a fun adventure movie, which promises a good time.

‘The Electric State’ released on Netflix on March 14, 2025.
