Arcane’ Season 2 Episode 7 Review

Episode seven gets the third and final arc of ‘Arcane’ season two off to a strong start, as we enter into a world of alternate realities, as the true power of the Arcane is tapped into even more.

As always, the show managed to throw a curveball in the last episode, with Jayce returning after disappearing into the Arcane, and seemingly killed Viktor, which has led to the destruction of Piltover and the deaths of everyone except him. It seems he has the power to make things right, though, as he’s sent back by the mysterious mage to fix things, which makes you wonder who this mysterious figure is, and what role he’ll play in the last couple of episodes.

At the same time (or should that be a different time), we find out where Heimerdinger and Ekko have been. They disappeared into the wild rune at the same time as Jayce, but for some reason, they have arrived in an alternate world, where Zaun is a prosperous and happy place, Vander and Silco are still friends, Bozo is alive and everything seems to be perfect, except for the fact that Vi had to die to make it all happen.

It’s a sad reminder of what could have been, if things had gone differently in the other world, and it hadn’t ended in violence and war. Ekko and Jinx might be together, Zaun might not be tearing itself apart, and the whole problems caused by Hextek might not be a thing. I thought Ekko might even end up staying in this world, given how appealing it is, and the dangers of trying to return to his own time.

This whole storyline really opens up the possibilities for where the show can go next. The potential outcomes are endless, with other worlds, and the ability to travel between them. Add to this the fact that Ekko manages to create a time machine of sorts, sure it might only transport him back a few seconds, but sometimes that’s all you need to change things forever.

All of this adds up to something really special being cooked up for the ending, as we enter the third and final arc of the show. There’s so much at stake, everything’s still to play for, with the possibility the series will pull another twist and change everything in the finale.
