Mass Effect TV Series in development at Amazon
A series based on the beloved science fiction video game franchise ‘Mass Effect’ is in the works at Amazon, Variety reports.
Daniel Casey, previously a writer on ‘F9: The Fast Saga’ will write and executive produce the series. Karim Zreik will also executive produce under his Cedar Tree Productions banner, alongside Ari Arad and EA’s Michael Gamble.
Plot details are currently being kept under wraps, but the first three games follows Commander Shepard in the 22nd century as he and his crew fight the ancient aliens known as the Reapers.
The games allow players to shape Shepard however they like, and choose different dialogue options that impact which of their companions live or die.
The fourth entry, ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ was set much further forward in the timeline, and followed a new cast of characters as well as a new storyline.
‘Mass Effect 5’ is also currently in development at BioWare, as they aim to keep developing and extend the franchise.
BioWare developed the franchise and it’s published by EA following their acquisition of BioWare in 2007.
There have been previous attempts to turn the franchise into a feature film, but they have never come to fruition.
The first entry in the ‘Mass Effect’ franchise was released in 2007 and garnered favourable reviews from both gamers and critics.
‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’ was the last mainline game to launch in 2017, though it didn’t achieve the same acclaim.
The franchise has had multiple mobile games, books, comic books, and other media.
It’s unclear when the TV series will be released on Amazon Prime Video, or who will star in the show.
