Ubisoft Replaces Star Wars Outlaws Creative Director

In it’s ongoing effort to improve ‘Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft have replaced creative director Julian Gerighty with Drew Rechner.

Rechner has previously worked on ‘The Division 2’ as lead AI designer and ‘Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’ as associate game director.

“I’m very excited to be stepping into the role of creative director on Star Wars Outlaws and to be working with the incredibly passionate team here at Massive Entertainment along with our talented co-development studios around the world and Lucasfilm Games,” Rechner wrote.

“I would like to personally thank you, our community, for your positive response to the game. We see and love all the fan arts, comments, and videos you’ve created around the game, and it continues to provide joy and inspiration to the team. We truly hope you’re enjoying your journey across the Outer Rim with Kay and Nix thus far.”

Rechner laid out his plans for future updates to ‘Outlaws’, focusing on three key areas, combat, stealth and controls.

Rechner said this will embrace “player choice more than ever before, whether it’s sneaking through encounters, going in blasters-blazing, or everything in-between.”

‘Outlaws’ has already recieved multiple updates, and will gete patch 1.4 on November 21, the same day the game launches on Steam.

Ubisoft was also quick to reassure players that Gerighty being removed from ‘Outlaws’ was nothing to do with the mixed critical reception and poor sales performance of the game.

Rather, this move is because Gerighty is moving back to working on ‘The Division’ franchise, as when the third installment was announced back in 2023, Gerighty was confirmed to be he executive producer.

His time as creative director for ‘Outlaws’; would only last until the game launched.

‘Outlaws’ released on August 30, 2024, and failed to sell to Ubisoft’s expectations. This poor launch also prompted the studio to delay ‘Assassin’s Creed: Shadows’ into 2025.
