The Wild Robot Sequel Announced at Universal

‘The Wild Robot’ will be getting a sequel at DreamWorks Animation at Universal.

This was confirmed by the film’s director, Chris Sanders, who spoke to Deadline. 

“100% yes there are absolutely plans for a second one,” Sanders said. 

Sanders will return to to direct the sequel. 

While no announcement has been made on what this film will follow, it’s likely that the studio will adapt the second novel in author Peter Brown’s trilogy, titled ‘The Wild Robot Escapes’. 

The first film, in cinemas across the globe, and sees Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o plays a robot called ROZZUM unit 7134 — “Roz” for short — who is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to live amongst the animals and survive a harsh wilderness, all while raising an orphaned gosling. 

Pedro Pascal, Catherine O’Hara, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Matt Berry, and Bill Nighy all appear to voice characters.

It has already made $100 million in box office sales across the globe, with audience and critcal reaction to the film being universally positive. 

No release date has been announced for the sequel, but it’s unlikely that audiences will be able to watch soon. 

DreamWorks have several upcoming projects in the works, including films called ‘Dog Man’, ‘The Bad Guys 2’ and ‘Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie’, all with a planned 2025 release. 

The studio is also having one of it’s most popular animated films, ‘How to Train Your Dragon’ be remade in live-action, which also has a planned 2025 release.
