Nautilus’ Trailer Reaction

A new trailer has dropped for ‘Nautilus’, a ten part series from James Dorner due to release later this month.

Amazon Prime Video UK & IE

The show tells the origin story of Captain Nemo, a character from the Jules Verne novels ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’ and ‘The Mysterious Island’. While the show is drawing inspiration from Verne’s work, it’s also cutting a new path, showing us parts of Nemo’s life we’ve never seen before, adding in characters and storylines not featured in the novels.

The series takes place in the mid-19th century, and follows the Indian prince as he steals a submersible vessel, the Nautilus, and starts on a quest to take down the East India Company which is occupying his country.

As you might expect from a sci-fi show of this kind, there’s going to be plenty of action and adventure, and from the trailer, it looks like it’s taking a more fantastical, rather than historical, approach to its premise.

A lot of that action is coming from the fight against the East India Company which has been holding Nemo prisoner, forcing him to work on the Nautilus until he leads a revolt, and manages to escape with his followers, stealing the submarine as he does, and leading to the Company giving chase.

Naturally for a show based on Jules Verne’s novels, there are big monsters to fight, with a scene showing a giant eel promising plenty of underwater action.

It might not be a show for anyone looking for historical accuracy, but it teases plenty of adventure and fun, in an unserious way, and it shares similarities with the Disney+ show ‘Renegade Nell’ which released earlier this year, playing free with anachronisms and adding in comedy elements to make what looks like an entertaining ride.

‘Nautilus’ stars Shazad Latif as Nemo, alongside a cast including Georgia Flood and Thierry Fremont. It will be releasing on Amazon Prime Video in the UK and Ireland on 25 October, and Stan Australia on the same day, with AMC handling the release in the US and Canada.
