Robocop to get the TV treatment at Amazon from showrunner Peter Ocko

The ‘Robocop’ franchise will get a TV show based on it to debut on Amazon Prime Video.

Peter Ocko, best known for being a producer and writer on the hit comedy ‘The Office’ will serve as showunner.

James Wan, known for working on horror films like ‘The Conjuring’ and directing 2018’s ‘Aquaman’ and its 2023 followup, ‘Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’ will produce the show under his Atomic Monster banner.

The synopsis for the series reads as follows:  “A giant tech conglomerate collaborates with the local police department to introduce a technologically advanced enforcer to combat rising crime — a police officer who’s part man, part machine.”

Michael Clear and Rob Hackett from Atomic Monster will join Ocko and Wan to executive produce, with Danielle Bozzone overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.

Amazon MGM Studios will produce. The studio has been looking to make a TV show based on the ‘Robocop’ IP since Amazon acquired MGM in 2022.

The first ‘Robocop’ film debuted in 1987 starring Peter Weller as the cyborg police officer Alex Murphy.

Weller returned for the film’s sequel in 1990, and Robert Buke took over the role for the third film in the franchise in 1993.

Joel Kinnaman starred in a rebot of the franchise in 2014.

‘Robocop’ is no stranger to adaptations, with two live-action and two-animated shows already out.

Comics and video games have also proved fertile ground for the franchise, with the most recent game ‘RoboCop: Rogue City’ released in 2023 after being developed by Teyon and published by Nacon. Original actor Peter Weller returned to his role as Murphy.

There is no release date for the ‘Robocop’ series, and a trailer showing off the show to audiences hasn’t been released yet.
