Nemesis Lockdown Pits Players And Aliens Together In A Fight To Survive

Nemesis Lockdown is the PC port of the popular tabletop game. It’s just as unforgiving and requires carefully picking your next move. You play as one of various characters trying to survive an alien attack on their Mars base. Each game starts with two randomly generated objectives that must be completed within fifteen rounds. Combat isn’t the only thing that can kill you though. Especially since avoiding aliens is always the right move. The base will explode after the final round or you can escape but find out you’ve been contaminated.

This time limit can force you into moving too fast. Not only can you rush into an encounter that could’ve been avoided, but noise is a factor. Your moves are decided by more random cards given when each round begins. These can be used in place of action points. If this sounds too intimidating to tackle solo, there’s a multiplayer mode. With a catch. Each player gets their own objectives (a personal objective and a mission from a sketchy organization) which are kept from the other players. It means this is a game where cooperation is necessary, but betrayal can come when objectives contradict each other.

Lockdown is a game that doesn’t let up on its tension for a second. It will almost always be dark. This makes the aliens stronger. While its graphics draw you in immediately, the challenge can quickly overshadow that. This game also plays like a very slow, turn based RPG. And one bad roll can undo all your careful choices. It’s accurate to sitting down at a table for the board game, but can feel unrelenting.

Whether you enjoy or not Nemesis Lockdown comes down to how quickly you grasp its mechanics. You also need to enjoy your entire run being determined by chance. But the map has incredibly detailed rooms that are surprisingly detailed though there’s only one location. The characters are fully animated as they go about their tasks. Lockdown is going to throw you in the deep end and leave your survival up to luck.
