Star Wars and Marvel actor Ray Stevenson dies at 58
Northern Irish actor Ray Stevenson died at the age of 58 on Sunday May 21.
Stevenson passed away on Sunday in a hospital on the Italian island of Ischia.
He was working on his next film, Cassino in Ischia.
His cause of death is unknown.
He was born in Lisburn in Northern Ireland in 1964.
Stevenson appeared in several shows and films such as King Arthur, RRR, and Rome.
In Star Wars, he voiced Mandalorian super commando Gar Saxon in the animated shows Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels.
Stevenson had two Marvel roles. The first was a starring role in the 2008 film Punisher: War Zone as Frank Castle, known as the Punisher.
His second Marvel role would be Volstagg, one of the warriors three, in Thor, Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.
Stevenson will appear in the upcoming Star Wars Disney+ show Ahsoka as an antagonist called Baylan Skoll.
He will also appear in the film Gateway to West coming out later this year.
Stevenson had three sons with Italian anthropologist Elisabetta Caraccia.
People have been reacting to his death on social media.
The Peter Mayhew Foundation, a non-profit organisation preserving the memory of Chewbacca actor Peter Mayhew, wrote:
“We are sad to hear of the passing of Ray Stevenson. You may recognize Ray as Baylon Skoll from the upcoming Ahsoka show on Disney+. You may also remember his work as the voice of Mandalorian super commando Gar Saxon in The Clone Wars. Our sincerest condolences to his family.”
James Gunn, director of the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy in the Marvel Cinematic Universe tweeted out:
“Damn. So sorry to hear about the passing, far too young, of Ray Stevenson. I only knew him a little from shooting post-credits of Thor 2 & a couple interactions at events, but we had some good laughs & he was a joy to work with. His friends & family are in my heart today.”
Kiner Music, the composers of Ahsoka, wrote:
“Gut punch this morning learning Ray Stevenson passed away. His truly haunting performance in Ahsoka has a gravity that stunned us all. A great loss of a veteran artist and the craft is poorer for his absence.”
