Michelle Yeoh to star in Star Trek: Section 31

Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh’s project Star Trek: Section 31 will be moving forward according to Paramount+, as a full feature film instead of a limited series, Variety reports. 

A Section 31 series was reported to be in production all the way back in 2019. Yeoh will reprise her role from Star Trek: Discovery season one, Emperor Philippa Georgiou.

Per the official synopsis, “Emperor Philippa Georgiou joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past.” 

“I’m beyond thrilled to return to my Star Trek family and to the role I’ve loved for so long,” said Yeoh. “Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of Star Trek launched. 

To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. 

“We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!”

Production will begin later this year. Olatunde Osunsanmi will direct, and Craig Sweeny will write and executive produce. Alex Kurtzman will executive produce. 

Yeoh will also executive produce alongside starring. No other cast members have been confirmed yet. The plot is also yet to be confirmed.

Section 31 is an autonomous intelligence and defence organisation that carries out covert operations for the United Federation of Planets.

The last Star Trek film was released in 2016, titled Star Trek Beyond. Star Trek four has been indefinitely delayed, and hasn’t received an update in months. 

A release date hasn’t been provided for the film.
